Architecture and Disaster and History and Louis Sullivan24 May 2011 03:14 am

While shuffling through my old photos, I came across this bit of heartbreak—the Dexter Building at 630 S. Wabash, which was designed by Adler and Sullivan and, at the time, the oldest example of Sullivan’s work. I took these pictures May 21, 2004. Less than two years later the building burned down. I haven’t bothered to stop by the site. I don’t care to see what they might have replaced it with. I’m sorry I never walked around to the other side to shoot the awesome exposed girders in back.
